Pfizer Recalls Birth Control Pills
Just as patients are learning that Pfizer drugs like Zoloft and Chantix may cause them terrible side effects, Pfizer is facing yet another nasty problem with one of its drugs. This time, the pharmaceutical giant is recalling 1 million packets of birth control pills in the United States.
The recall comes not as a result of a potential health risk, Pfizer reps are saying, but because packaging errors led to some packs of birth control pills going out with too many active pills and some with too few. While the mistake should not lead to any negative health problems, it might well lead to unexpected and/or unwanted pregnancy. In the wake of the recall, Pfizer is urging all consumers of their Lo/Ovrol-28, Nogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets to begin using non-hormonal birth contraception instead.
Patients depend on the drugs their doctors prescribe to prevent or cure medical problems, but when large drug manufacturers like Pfizer are careless during production or when they fail to disclose potential side effects, people can be hurt by the very substances meant to protect them.
