In 2004, Avastin (generic name bevacizumab) received FDA approval for the treatment of certain types of metastatic cancers. This can be a fatal issue that involves abdominal pain, nausea, constipation and fever. Other life-threatening issues include the inability for wounds to heal, most notably surgical cuts, as well as serious bleeding issues, including coughing up blood, as well as internal bleeding in the stomach, brain and spine. In some situations, this bleeding has been serious enough that transfusions were required.
